Comunicado

# Venezuela rejects U.S. sanctions against PDVSA .

Caracas, 25 May. AVN .-

The moral and patriotic feeling of all Venezuelans shall be strengthened before the aggression represented on the sanctions announced last Tuesday by the United States against the oil national company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), due to its sovereign decision of establishing commercial relations with Iran.

This is the spirit of the official statement issued by the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, red by Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, to express people"s and national determination of condemning this new meddling of the US government.

“The revolutionary Government calls on all the Venezuelan people, laborers and especially the oil workers, to stay alert and mobilized in defense of our PDVSA and the sacred sovereignty of the homeland,” reads the text.

Reuters agency reported that the US government would sanction PDVSA for trading with Iran, but it “would not affect” the company"s sale of oil to that country. The measure would also include sanctions on six small companies of other countries.

According to the mentioned news agency, Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg said the sanctions on PDVSA would prevent it from access to U.S. government contracts and import/export financing.

Rejection to aggression against PDVSA

Last Tuesday afternoon, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro and Energy and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez headed a press conference to express the strongest rejection on behalf of the Bolivarian Government and the Venezuelan people to these hostile actions of the United States Administration.

“Not only Venezuela, but the whole South American region has been facing a reactionary offensive and unpopular on behalf of the US government,” Maduro said.

He added that the Foreign Ministry and experts of the Energy and Oil Ministry are analyzing and investigating over the US decision to review it and turn to the corresponding international entities.

Simultaneously to Maduro and Ramirez"s statements, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez highlighted via twitter the sovereignty of our country as an independent nation, as in the use of its foreign policy as in its freedom to trade with all nations of the world.

“Sanctions against Bolivar"s Homeland? Imposed by the Yankee imperialist government? Well, welcome Mr Obama! Don"t forget we are the sons of Bolivar,” said the President through his twitter account @chavezcandanga.

Attack against peoples of the South

Minister Maduro added that the interventionist decision of the US government does not limit just to Venezuela, but it answers to an attack against the independent nations of the South.

The North seeks to impose itself economically and politically, to control the planet"s energy and natural resources, he said.

Venezuela is in capacity to face the US sanction since it has all economic, technological conditions, and “the most important: The patriotic conscience of the majorities among nations, to join and defend each other, as a single people, our oil industry.”

National control over the oil activity

Energy and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez reaffirmed Venezuela"s sovereignty as a free homeland to trade with all countries in the world.

This aggression is also against the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). “We will not allow this aggression. The Venezuelan State keeps to itself the control of all its oil activity.”

However, “We guarantee the supply to our subsidiary companies in US territory.”

By the end of the press conference, the tag #VenezuelaSeRespeta (or VenezuelaIsRespected, in Spanish) placed in the first place among Twitter"s trending topics, which was useful for Internet users to express their support to the Bolivarian Government.
